Black soil is mineral soil with a black surface horizon rich in organic carbon with a depth of at least 25 cm.
There are two types of black soils: those that are the result of lava flows, and those that are found on the Deccan Plateau and the Malwa Plateau, where there is both moderate rainfall and underlying basalt.
The black soil is found in the Deccan Trap region because this region is formed from the deposition of lava rocks broken down by weathering.
